Got Grubs?

No, not your unemployable son-in-law. The ones that feed on your lawn. Here are some tips about dealing with grubs (and making sure that grubs are really a problem).

Grubs (and there are several varieties) are most active from August to October. As the days grow cooler they migrate deeper into the lawn and cease feeding.
A healthy lawn can sustain a grub population of about 12 per square foot without significant injury.
To check if you have a grub issue, dig up a square foot of your lawn adjacent to an area that shows damage
Conduct a census. Forget the long form and just count 'em
If the population exceeds the 12 threshold, then you might want to treat with the appropriate insecticide.
Read the directions on the bag VERY carefully.
If you are wary of putting down insecticide all over the place (and bully for you if you are), then treat only the areas adjacent to the damaged areas.
Remember - best time to treat for grubs is August thru October.
