Garden Club of the Capital District

Message from the Club President

Dear Fellow Gardeners:

Welcome to the Garden Club of the Capital District. I hope that the information you find here will inspire you to become a part of our family of gardeners who are drawn from the entire Albany region. We meet monthly for dinner and fellowship from the Fall through the Spring, usually on the fourth Thursday of the month. Interesting gardening topics are presented by guest speakers at the meetings. Our interests extend to all types of gardening including lawns, vegetables, flowers, shrubbery, trees, water and exotic plants.

We also have a Ladies Night dinner twice a year. However, if any of our programs are of special interest to the ladies, they are always welcome.

We promote civic projects, gardening education and environmental improvement. Our Horticultural Therapy Program "Gardening from the Heart" in cooperation with the Center for Disability Services in Albany, is one activity we are most proud of sponsoring.

We produce a monthly newsletter, entitled the "DIRT", and offer horticulture consultation, plant studies and reports, discounts at arboretums, botanical gardens and gardener supply houses. We participate in the national Gardener's Calendar photo contest, a seed exchange program, and offer solutions to gardening problems

We are a very active gardening organization and have "Adopt-a Highway" on I-90 between exits 6 and 7 where we have a permanent planter to exhibit a seasonal floral display.

The members of the organization also demonstrate their gardening prowess by beautifying the Albany International Airport. We sponsor a display booth at the Albany County Altamont Fair and are judges for entrants in the horticulture contest for The Great New York State Fair in Syracuse.

We hope you will want to join us for our dinner meetings and learn more about gardening and participate in the wonderful accomplishments of our group.

Best regards,

Joe Raggio, President
